LEARNING THROUGH PLAY

Welcome to the East Side Nursery School, a parent/ teacher cooperative preschool since 1957, where young children learn through play.

Welcome to the East Side Nursery School

Our play-oriented program allows children to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in later schooling and in their daily lives.

We support and encourage learning through active play

ESNS is a joyful and community-centered nursery school where children explore and learn through play.

About the Program

We believe learning is an interactive process that requires active thinking and experimenting though child-led and teacher-supported exploration.

We have two class groups: a three-year old class that meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a four-year-old class that meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Our adult-child ratio is approximately 1:5.

Applications open on September 1 for the following school year. Class spots are offered in March preceding the school year.

Happening at ESNS

We are preparing for our annual ESNS Art Museum! We talked about color mixing and how colors make us feel. Inspired by the art of Vivian Springford, we made watercolor paintings using either warm or cool colors. Look at how the colors blend together!

We are enjoying learning about Alexander Calder’s mobile and stabile sculptures. We are experimenting with construction and balance as we make mobiles of our own. When our museum opens for family visitors, they will have a chance to contribute to a large, collaborative mobile.

The individual attention given, genuine care for, and wealth of knowledge and experience the teachers have, honestly, has enriched not just our kids but our whole family. We love ESNS!
